VOODOO Voyage: 004: Tom Harvie

VOODOO Voyage: 004: Tom Harvie

The next stop on our VOODOO Voyager is to sit down and chat with Tom Harvie, a commanding defender known for his huge passing range and composure on the ball, and a long-time friend of VOODOO (honestly, the only reason we could pester him into doing this chat 😉)

Tom first things first, what’s your coffee of choice?
Not much of a coffee drinker so would probably go for a hot chocolate.

What position on the pitch do you play?
Fullback

Which VOODOO shape do you use?
VXC

Would you rather play without a mouthguard or without shin guards?
Without a Mouthguard

Why do you use VOODOO?
Love the brand and its history, plus they make the best sticks.

What about the game of hockey do you love?  This can be on field or off field.
The competition and smacking goals (doesn’t happen often from fullback but love the warm up)

Looking back, what’s the single piece of advice you’d give your younger self when you first started playing?
How you do anything is how you do everything.

What has been your biggest challenge you have overcome?
Not losing yourself in the pursuit of higher honours.

What is your favourite memory on the pitch to date?
Anytime I get to play, no specific memories

Outside of hockey what do you enjoy spending your time doing?
Fishing and surfing

What do you wish to see for Australian hockey domestically and internationally and what is required to get there?
Return to world dominance for the Kookas and Hockeyroos and recreate a thriving junior hockey community by continuing to invest in the grass roots and creating a culture at the highest level that inspires young people to want to be apart of it.

Who got you into hockey and at what age?
My family and I started playing when I was 4.

What club did you first start playing for?
Boyanup Hockey Club.

Describe your playing style in three words
Never give up.

What’s the weirdest superstition, ritual, or pre-game habit you’ve ever had or witnessed on the team?
Don’t have one myself but most common I’ve seen is lucky items of clothing or putting shoes and socks on in the right order.

Would you rather fight a horse sized duck or 100 duck sized horses?
100 duck sized horses.

Big thanks to Tom Harive for taking the time this week to share some behind-the-scenes insight. Keep an eye out as we continue the journey with more of our VOODOO Endorsers.
