The next stop on VOODOO Voyage is a sit-down with Maddy Naish, one of our incredibly talented junior players who has been part of the Australian Jillaroos squad.

Known for her blistering speed, relentless energy. She has overcome significant challenges and emerged stronger on the other side Whether she’s breaking lines, lifting the intensity in key moments, Maddy always brings a powerful presence and competitive edge every time she steps onto the pitch.

I love the competitive nature of the game and I enjoy being challenged at training and in games. The friends I’ve made along the way have always kept me in the game as well.

Looking back, what’s the single piece of advice you’d give your younger self when you first started playing?
Keep being curious and be a student of the game.


What has been your biggest challenge you have overcome?
Lymphoma

What is your favourite memory on the pitch to date?
Winning back to back premierships with my club team the Westside Wovles Hockey Club in the West Australian Premier league.

Outside of hockey what do you enjoy spending your time doing?
Going to the beach and meeting up with friends

What do you wish to see for Australian hockey domestically and internationally and what is required to get there?
Bigger crowds


Who got you into hockey and at what age?
I first began at 4 years old

What club did you first start playing for?
Modernians hockey club

What’s the weirdest superstition, ritual, or pre-game habit you’ve ever had or witnessed on the team?
Can’t listen to sky fall by adele before a game
